We are pleased to announce the 2026 Draw Montgomery Art Competition, sponsored by the Montgomery Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This juried exhibition is open to ALL students in grades 6 – 8 and 9 – 12 across the River Region, South Central, and Southeast Alabama.

This year’s competition invites students to explore the built and natural environments of the River Region. Eligible subject matter includes architecture, interiors, structures, and landscapes, interpreted creatively with any two-dimensional medium.

Cash prizes totaling approximately $900 will be awarded in four divisions!

Division 1: Artwork for Grades 6-8	Division 3: Photography for Grades 6-8
Division 2: Artwork for Grades 9-12	Division 4: Photography for Grades 9-12

All selected work will be displayed at the Anita P. Folmar Art Gallery at the Armory Arts Center

• Exhibition Dates will be May 1^st – 31^st:
  Artwork will be displayed at the Anita P. Folmar Gallery.
  

• Judging will take place prior to May 8^thin all four divisions.
  

• Awards Ceremony:
  Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 20^th, at the Armory Learning Arts Center. The awards ceremony starts at 5:00 pm CT.
  Awards include:
• $150 for 1^st Place | $75 for 2^nd Place | $50 for 3^rd Place | $25 – Honorable Mentions
• Guests will be eligible for gift card drawings | Refreshments will be provided.
  

• Artwork Pickup:
  Artwork should be retrieved from the Montgomery Cultural Arts Center during the first week of June.
  
• Subject Matter:
• Entries should relate to representations or interpretations of the design arts – architecture, landscape design, interior design, and similar subjects within the River Region.
  
• Format:
  All submissions must be two-dimensional. Any medium is acceptable (e.g., photography, pencil, ink, acrylic, oil, etc.).
  
• Presentation Requirements:
  Artwork must be ready for display – matted and, if desired, wrapped in acetate. The back of each piece must include:
• Title
• Artist’s name
• Grade
• School
• Teacher’s name (if applicable)
• Medium Used
• Contact email or phone number
• (Label template attached.)
  
• Promotional Materials:
  Flyers are included to help teachers, families, and communities encourage student participation.

Draw Montgomery is a juried art exhibition organized in 2007 by the Chapter to promote awareness of architecture in grade school students. The exhibition is open to all students in grades 6-12 in South Central and Southeast Alabama. Entrants are encouraged to use the wealth of historic buildings and architectural styles found in the River Region including South Central and Southeast Alabama. We encourage participants to look carefully at our city and creatively interpret what they see, while conveying awareness of good design and its impact.
